Wednesday night at the Brooklyn Vegan party...

After a great afternoon in Austin, Chris and I enjoyed some BBQ from
Stubb's despite the hostesses' nasty little attitudes. Chris also went
to use the bathroom and had a Pink Panther moment where he went out
the wrong door and ended up on the stage in the middle of the
Decemberists' sound check. Incredible.

The music we heard in the afternoon wasn't much to speak of. We went
to an afternoon party at Emo's that featured a band of "cool-to-suck"
indie rockers appropriately named Psychodelic Horseshit. Then we saw
Waves, which is a punky guitar/drums duo featuring a lot of
misappropriated youthful angst, but I did appreciate his excessive use
of the words 'pal' and 'boss'. Then back on the inside stage we caught
the tail end of Trash Talk. I would have paid more attention to the
music, but I was distracted by the lead singer's bleeding head and his
constant spitting on stage. They made me feel like my music is
extremely soft rock, and I wants to suck my thumb more than usual.

But last night our music listening experience took a turn for the
better. We went to the Brooklyn Vegan evening party where we saw Those
Darlins, Phosphorescent (who played their entire Willie Nelson tribute
album and were pretty amazing), and Deer Tick. I was also introduced
to a new drink called the Yahtzee which is simply Red Bull and
Bushmill's. Roll the dice baby. Roll the dice.

More to come later today. Along with our final show tonight at Touche.

Yahtzee.

There's no reason for this picture, or a connection to the trip we are currently on.

Day 1 of our trip...completed.

11:43am Central Time

So here we are! Driving through the Tennessee heartland where as
somewhere very special always says, it smells like cheddar cheese and
dust. Truck stops and mud farms. Passing a town ironically called
Palestine.

Last night we played a showcase in Nashville at The Basement. We
couldn't have been more pleased with the evening. There was a band
with a lead singer that was missing most of his strummin' hand, and he
had a cool mustache, and sang a song about a mustachio man stealing
his girl right out of his hand.

We had a great power set of about 25 minutes. Taught them a lesson,
really. And then I was blown away by the following bands, including
Hey Negrita, a sex pot songstress named Melissa Mathes, and a great
new Brooklyn band called The Albertans which I believe features some
canadians. They made me think of Sufjan Stevens meets The Cure. I
didn't mention that connection to Joel, their frontman, because I
never know how insulting my fusions will be, but I would have meant it
in the most polite and admiring way. A true pleasure to hear.

And all of us making our way to Austin. Tonight we will be at the
Chuggin Monkey at 11pm. I'm sure we'll make it, right?

Food I done ate today: 1 ham egg & cheese on English muffin with
coffee from Dunkin Donuts, half a vitamin water, 1 pop tart strawberry
with icing, 2 Sun Chips garden salsa variety.

Music listened to so far: Nigeria Special (compilation), the new M.
Ward, Loney Dear.
